FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

The main questions have always been 

Should I carry on in my full-time/part-time job? 

The answer is yes and, I highly recommend that you do stay in your salaried employment until you have secured enough income through working online to pack it in.  Could be a couple of weeks, could be several months, but it will happen.  For me, I used to work Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and, I spent every evening and Tuesday and Thursdays researching all the information required for a year (obviously this step is bypassed for you if you buy the book), published the website and two weeks later packed in my part-time job.  

Do I need to have a Virtual Assistant Qualification/Any Qualifications?

Short answer - no, you don't.  If you have skills that you are highly confident with, have carried them out in the normal course of your employment and, know that they would be of benefit to a client, why do you need some certificate?  

Also, in my five years of running Typing Solutions -not once have I been asked if I have any typing qualifications!  People are hardly going to advertise a service that they are incapable of doing and, any prospective client may ask for any experience that you have but, not about your qualifications!

Do I need to offer a typing service? 

No, you don't.  You offer the services that you are happy to provide and, that you know will benefit a client.  It may be helpful to maybe get in touch with someone who does offer a typing service and come to an agreement that any typing work that comes your way could be outsourced to this person/company at a reduced rate and, you can make additional income this way.  So, you still advertise the service, you are just not providing it yourself.  This can go for any service that you don't feel skilled enough to carry out yourself if you set up as a Virtual Assistant.  

Do I have to inform the Inland Revenue even if I am only working from home part-time?

The answer is yes.  With any working from home business, be it selling products via a website or offering administrative assistance, even on a part-time basis. you must inform the Inland Revenue within three months of starting.

I am interested in your book about setting up my own typing business from home.  However, I do wonder why you would want to give away your secrets of success?  Doesn't this just dilute your own business potential?

MY ANSWER: 

My Dad asked me exactly the same question!

In a short answer, no it doesn't dilute my business in any way unless, I wanted to become a multi million pound operation, which I don't!  Though you could, if you wanted to.  

I don't want to grow Typing Solutions too much more as, I like to keep the personal touch with my clients and stay in complete control.  

Much more work and that personal touch is lost and, with over 30 companies using us on a daily basis, not taking into account the large projects we take on each month, I don't want to grow any more! 

There are over 2 MILLION businesses in this country, let alone globally who are now wanting to outsource their administrative work.  That's an awful lot more than my 30 daily clients and goodness knows how many monthly clients.  So, by giving away the secrets of my success, I am helping others and not hindering myself. 

I am a great believer in, what you take out of this world, you should give back and then, life keeps on giving. That's exactly why I have written this book.  I have obtained exactly what I wanted with Typing Solutions, growing it from just me with nothing, to one of the leading UK Typing & Transcription Service providers and providing myself and my son with the financial security that I was so desperate for five years ago.
