Working from Home Typing - Are you a Typist or Transcriber
Before you set up
your own typing from home service online, you need to know where your
skills lie and, the difference between being a typist and a transcriber.
A lot of people think that they are one and the same and, they're not
Typist:
The word typist
conjures up visions of someone sat in the office typing letters and, that
would be partly right. A typist must have exceptional grammar and
punctuation skills, be intuitive enough to not just type dictation as it
is but, to type it into "proper English" in a document.
At Typing
Solutions, I have a dedicated team of typists and we offer a typing
service for all kinds of businesses: Chartered Surveyors, Inventory
Companies, Psychiatric Services and many more.
With a normal,
typing service, you would be offering your services as a typist, i.e.
typing reports, inventories, surveyor reports, invoices and even books.
A Transcriber
needs also to have a good grasp of grammar and punctuation skills but,
there, the similarities end. The work that a transcriber must
produce can range from a verbatim interview where, when you listen to
every day speech, all the hmms, errs, ums, stutters, etc, must be
transcribed with the same speed and accuracy as typing normal dictation.
Not only that, to be a transcriber you must be able to show in type, if an
interviewee changes the subject, is upset, is shouting and many more
different nuances of speech all with speed and accuracy.
This takes a lot of practice and experience to be able to type as a matter
of course and, without hesitation.
A verbatim
transcript cuts out the everyday utterances and stutters and, again, a
Transcriber must be able to type up an interview, omitting these, with the
same speed and accuracy.
At Typing
Solutions, my team of transcribers provide a service for numerous
Universities and entities throughout the world.
Think about the
above before you start building your own typing from home website by
following the instructions in my book and,
decide whether you are offering typing services, transcription services
or, both.
