These are the disadvantages that I can think of as a working from home mum. These don't apply to me as I love working from home but, I am trying to give a balanced view so you can ensure that when you buy my book and start working from home you have a balanced view of the advantages and disadvantages.
Feelings of isolation. Some people may find that they miss an office environment and the office life with its daily gossip.
You need to be self-motivated. Some people are unable to motivate themselves when they work from home. They need a schedule and someone looking over their shoulder and telling them what to do. If you fall into this category then, working from home is not for you.
Workaholics. When you work from home you may find that you are constantly checking your computer, your phone all the time, at any time, day or night. This was a problem for me when I first started, I suppose it's the nerves and the excitement of starting your own typing from home service or any business working from home. For me, this was just a phase that didn't last long.
Make hay while the sun shines line of thought. This is really part of being a workaholic and, did apply to me when I first started Typing Solutions. I had a mindset that I had to do all the work that came my way because I might not have any work the next day. This too will soon pass! You will find that you do have work every day and, if you have too much work, you can outsource it at a reduced rate and be making money from something that you, yourself, didn't have time to do (That would be an advantage!)
Security. When you are working from home and self-employed you do not have the security of having a payslip from your employer, with the same amount, month in, month out. Some people prefer to have this even though it means that they will be earning a lot less than if they worked from home for themselves. Yes, you don't know how much you are going to be earning from day to day, particularly when you first start but, you soon learn that you are earning a lot more and, there is absolutely nothing to worry about when you have a quiet day as, you can do your housework, sit in the garden or go shopping, knowing that every day is different and, always evens itself out over the course of time.
